“Berkeley Humane is grateful to Treatibles for its generous product donation and is assessing its use with our shelter animals”
Berkeley Humane, located in Berkeley, California, serves the people and animals of their community by providing life-saving programs for cats and dogs, cultivating compassion, and strengthening the human-animal bond.
The organization focuses on where they can have the most impact: medically needy animals who are most often at the highest risk for euthanasia. These are the hardest-luck animals that might not have a chance.
“Most of the animals we rescued last year needed and received extensive medical care before adoption,” said Morgan Pulleyblank, Director of Development and Communications. “This year we expect to complete more than 1,250 adoptions, while also continuing to rescue some of the most difficult, medically challenged cases from local municipal shelters.”
Berkeley Humane touched the lives of more than 2,000 animals in 2018, and transferred in 1,085 animals from 14 different municipal shelters across the greater Bay Area, with another 141 animals arriving from other sources, such as owner surrenders in need of re-homing or found/abandoned litters.
The Berkeley Humane story goes back more than a century. In 1895, local residents concerned about financial irregularities and deplorable conditions at the Berkeley Dog Pound came together and formally organized the Berkeley SPCA. Within a year, The Oakland Tribune published a report celebrating a quick and impressive turnaround at the Berkeley Pound under their leadership. We moved to our current location in 1927, and continue this tradition—providing the most cutting-edge service to the hardest luck animals to save lives.
