Can You Tell if Your Pet is Feeling Discomfort?

by | Sep 8, 2020 | Blog, Cats, Discomfort, Dogs

Cats and dogs are experts in hiding their discomfort. This is a protection mechanism that is deeply ingrained in their DNA. In the wild, showing any signs of weakness is a welcome call to predators.

Unfortunately, it means that many of our pets suffer without us having a clue. That is why the International Veterinary Academy of Pain Management (IVAPM) has proclaimed September as Animal Pain Awareness Month. The organization is on a mission to help pet parents identify the signs and manage the issue.

Discomfort comes in many forms, from acute, which is obvious and distressing, to chronic, which is often subtle. Many pet parents confuse slowing down as being related to age, when often discomfort is the culprit (aging isn’t a disease).

Some Common Signs of Discomfort:

  • Decreased activity
  • Avoiding the stairs
  • No longer jumping on the bed or other furniture
  • Difficulty getting up after lying down
  • Over grooming/licking one area
  • No interest in food
  • Lip licking

If you notice any of these symptoms, it is important to have a veterinarian examine your pet.

The good news is that discomfort can managed in dogs and cats of all ages.

In addition to a conventional approach, there are many alternative modalities that offer relief from discomfort throughout the body without side effects, including:

Acupuncture

Cold Laser Therapy

Ozone Therapy

Magnetic Pain Relief Therapy

Massage Therapy

Underwater Physical Therapy

Many integrative veterinarians across the country offer these services. To find one in your area, visit AHVMA.org and The Chi Institute.

We also encourage you to check out Treatibles chews, oils, capsules and topical cream. The Full Spectrum Hemp Oil with naturally occurring CBD in all Treatibles products offers a natural approach by working within your pet’s endocannabinoid system to promote healthy joints, flexibility and a normal inflammatory response, support a healthy digestive tract and strong immune system and help instill calm, emotional balance and ease. Hemp derived CBD oil is ideal for pets with joint or digestive discomfort, skin issues, anxiety and so much more.
