Celebrate Shelter Pets Day was created in 2010 as a collaborative effort between the Ad Councilthe Humane Society of the United States and Maddie’s Fund®. Called “Shelter Pets Take Over Facebook Day” in its first year, the event, which takes place on the first Thursday after Thanksgiving, has grown to include all social platforms and involve hundreds of thousands of pets and those who adopted them.

According to the Humane Society, people are more likely to adopt a shelter pet if they’ve spoken with someone who has already done so. In order to help people understand what awesome, loving and wonderful pets shelter dogs and cats make, we encourage you to share your adopted pet’s story on your favorite social media feed and/or on the Treatibles Facebook page.

How Treatibles Helps Shelter Pets

Unfortunately, some cats and dogs are deemed unadoptable due to fear, anxiety, or perceived aggression. These misunderstood pets often thrive when their issues are addressed. Treatibles partners with rescues and shelters across the United States to initiate this transformation.

Treatibles Extra Strength Organic Full Spectrum Hemp CBD Oil products are ideal for helping these scared pets relax, ease their anxiety and instill normal emotional balance. That means instead of cowering in the corner of a cage or lashing out from fear-based aggression, a cat or dog may sit calmly and greet a potential adopter.

Another group of shelter pets that are often overlooked are seniors. Some older pets find themselves in shelters when their person passes away or is moved into a facility that doesn’t allow pets. They are afraid and confused. Many move a little slower due to joint and mobility issues that are exasperated by living in a cage with fewer opportunities to exercise. Treatibles Extra Strength Soft Chewables, 10 mg CBD Hard Chews and high potency Oil Dropper Bottles can make a huge difference by helping these pets feel calm and relieve discomfort throughout the body. Applying Treatibles Topical Cream is also a wonderful way to ease achy joints.

5 Tips For Helping A Shelter Pet Adapt To Their New Forever Home

Keep the pet on their current diet for the first couple of weeks

Once they have settled in, it’s time to upgrade to the best quality food your budget allows. It is important to transition slowly to help avoid digestive upset. Begin with ¾ of the current food and ¼ of new food. Each day add more of the new and less of the old until the switch is made. For dogs, our new Happy Tummy Probiotic Soft Chewables can be a great help during this time and as an everyday supplement.

Provide a quiet room for them to feel safe

For the first few days, make sure they have access to a place where they can hide and be comfortable. Outfit the room with a new bed, blanket, toys and for cats, a litter box. You may want to feed them inside or just outside the room.

Read to your new pet

Hearing the sound of your loving voice is calming and helps create a bond. Even if a new pet is hiding under the bed, your voice will slowly break down barriers. It can take some time for a frightened fur baby to feel safe. Be patient.

Interactive play

Establish a consistent play schedule. This helps to build trust and will strengthen the bond between the two of you.

Slowly Introduce to other pets in the household

Your new cat or dog should be confined to one room for a week or two. Feed them inside the room and your current pet(s) right outside the door. This creates a positive association. After a day or two, open the door a bit while feeding everyone. Most pets will feel comfortable with each other within a week. During this time, do some site swapping – allow your pet(s) to come explore the room and your new bundle of joy to explore other areas of the house. They will become accustomed to each other’s scent. Our line of classic and Extra Strength Treatibles can be a great help during this process.

To everyone that has made their home a loving forever home for a shelter pet, thank you!!!

Treatibles FAQs

Treatibles Full Spectrum Hemp CBD is formulated specifically for pets, using only USDA-certified organic hemp and natural ingredients. Thousands of pet owners use Treatibles daily with confidence — and the formula is designed to be vet-friendly so it can be discussed openly with a veterinarian.

No. Hemp-derived CBD contains less than 0.3% THC — far below the threshold that produces psychoactive effects. Treatibles products are formulated to deliver calming, comfort-supporting benefits without intoxication. Pets remain alert, engaged, and themselves — just calmer and more comfortable.

Most pets show noticeable calming effects within 30–60 minutes of their first dose. Effects typically last 4–8 hours depending on the pet’s size, metabolism, and the specific product used. For best results with ongoing concerns like chronic discomfort or anxiety, consistent daily use over 2–4 weeks tends to produce the most meaningful outcomes.

Dosing is based on body weight and the specific Treatibles product. Each product includes a clear dosing guide on the label. The general starting point is 1 mg of CBD per 10 lbs of body weight once or twice daily. It is always recommended to start at the lower end and adjust as needed, observing how the pet responds over the first few days.

CBD Isolate contains only pure CBD with all other plant compounds removed. Full Spectrum preserves the naturally occurring cannabinoids, terpenes, and flavonoids found in the hemp plant, producing what researchers call the ‘entourage effect’ — where the compounds work synergistically for a more complete response. Treatibles uses Full Spectrum hemp precisely because the full plant profile delivers broader, more effective wellness support compared to isolate alone.

Treatibles uses a 5 in 1 formula in all our products. You can use any of our products for anxiety. plus:
