How to Prepare, Pay Attention, and Protect Pets for an Anxiety-Free July 4th

Cute dog with fireworks image behind him

This year’s Independence Day festivities may be quite different due to social distancing. But keep in mind, anxiety triggers including neighborhood fireworks and house parties, will still be front and center for many dogs and cats.

Incorporating the three Ps – Protect, Prepare and Pay Attention can make a world of difference in keeping pets calm and safe.

Protect

Did you know July 5th is the busiest day of the year for many animal shelters? That’s because more American pets spooked by fireworks run away on the 4th of July than any other day of the year. Here are some ways to keep your pet feeling safe and secure:

  • Choose a quiet room in the house with secure windows and a door that can be closed to help them feel safe and prevent them from escaping should they become frightened.
  • Include a favorite bed, toys, fresh water and food.
  • For cats, provide a place to hide – a kitty tunnel or a box (and of course, a litter box).
  • If your pet views a crate or carrier as a safe space, put it in the room.
  • Turn on a television or play calming music – something that can act as white noise should things outside get a bit rowdy.

Prepare

Begin the day with one of our Organic Full Spectrum Hemp Oil With Naturally Occurring CBD Products to get ahead of the onset of anxiety/fear/stress. Keep in mind that in stressful situations, a higher dosage of CBD may be needed. We suggest offering Treatibles chews, oils, or capsules to your pet several times during the day beginning in the morning. Repeat administration four hours later and once again, an hour before dark, when fireworks generally are set off.

For pets who love Treatibles hard chews, a great way to increase the dosage is to add a few drops of our oil directly to the chew.

Pay Attention

There are noticeable signs your pet is suffering from anxiety:

  • Panting
  • Whining
  • Trembling
  • Hiding

Other signs may be less obvious and can be confused with other types of behavioral problems, such as:

  • Excessive barking
  • Repeated destructive behavior
  • Showing aggression

This July 4th can be a much calmer experience for your pet – and you! Sit back and observe what a difference Treatibles can make as your pet who normally freaks out from the blasts and booms remains chill.

Just ask longtime customer Anita R. – My husband and I were at our wits end. Three of our five dogs are petrified of loud noises (fireworks, thunder). We’ve tried everything to ease their extreme fear. Finally a friend referred me to Treatibles. The difference is astounding! My dogs are able to coexist with the noises outside. We are so grateful for Treatibles!”
