Celebrate Take A Walk In The Park Day With Your Dog

Young woman walks her dog in California park on take a walk in the park day

The question want to go for a walk? is one that makes nearly all dogs feel instant joy. Many immediately run to their leash, tail wagging, big smile on their face. It’s about more than just exercise – it’s a chance to explore the world with you! The annual Take A Walk In The Park Day on March 30th offers a great opportunity to take your dog for a walk in a new park or along a favorite trail in one frequented by you and your pup.

Here are some tips on how to make every walk special for your dog:

Alternate types of walks

Just as we incorporate different types of exercise into our fitness routine, dogs thrive when walks vary in length, purpose and place. For example:

  • Short morning, midday or late night walks for potty purposes
  • Long, leisurely walks after work
  • Fast-paced walks for exercise (should take place at least every other day)
  • Training walks for socialization, learning new commands, on-leash manners, etc. – it is best to offer rewards during these walks, such as Treatibles Hard Chews or Soft Chewables (intro size packs are ideal!)

If your dog is reactive to other dogs or people, we recommend offering Treatibles CBD for dogs a half hour before heading out for a walk. This will help instill calm and help your dog focus once outside. Alternate between Organic Full Spectrum Hemp CBD Hard Chews, Soft Chewables and high potency Oil. Bring some Chews or Chewables with you as a reward for good behavior.

Allow and encourage time for sniffing

Smell to dogs is like sight for us – it’s how they take in the world. Allowing them ample time to stop, sniff and investigate helps them to explore and at the same time, stimulates their mind. When they pee during this time, it is their way of leaving the message, “I was here.”

Stay present

Put down that phone and enjoy the time with your pooch! On a practical note, paying attention during a walk can also help prevent mishaps by being able to react quickly in situations like a car passing by a little too close, or a not-so-friendly dog entering your space.

Different Routes

Offering new places to explore can be mentally and emotionally stimulating for your dog. It can also help you stay more present on walks. Try to incorporate at least a few different walking routes. Perhaps explore a new neighborhood or park once a week. Take A Walk In The Park Day is a great opportunity to begin!

Doggie Dates

Does your dog have a friend they like to socialize with? Arrange to have them stroll together.

Family Affair

Allowing different members of the family to take the dog for a walk can be a whole lot of fun for your pup. The pace may be different, offering a bit of variety. Plus, one-on-one time with each person is a wonderful bonding experience.
